Way of the Warrior Kid premieres on Apple TV on November 25, 2026. Apple’s October 27 trailer announcement gives that date explicitly. If you saved an older notice saying November 20, update the reminder. The current announcement is the one I would plan around.
Chris Pratt plays the uncle in a story about a boy who feels behind at almost everything. That premise could easily be reduced to a motivational slogan, but the more interesting question is what an adult can offer a child beyond telling him to toughen up. Apple’s description points towards confidence and courage rather than a simple lesson in fighting.
Why two release dates are still circulating
The older date was not invented by an entertainment blog. Apple’s February 3 announcement really did say November 20. Its October announcement now says November 25, and the current UK film page agrees. This is a case where a genuine official source has been overtaken by a newer one.
| Apple material | Date it gives |
|---|---|
| February 3 first-look announcement | November 20, 2026 — superseded |
| October 27 trailer announcement | November 25, 2026 |
| Current official UK title page | November 25, 2026 |
Apple describes the new date as a global launch in its service markets. The announcement does not give a reason for the change, so I would not attach a production-delay story to a five-day calendar adjustment. What matters for the viewing plan is the newer date.

Marc’s summer with Uncle Jake
Jude Hill plays Marc, whose problems at school include bullying, academic struggles and difficulty making friends. His injured uncle Jake, played by Pratt, comes to recover with Marc and his mother Sarah, played by Linda Cardellini. Jake develops a training programme for his nephew while dealing with his own troubles.
The official Apple title page identifies the film as an adaptation of Jocko Willink’s novel. McG directs, with a screenplay by Will Staples. Willink also appears in the cast. Those are the creative details that matter most before viewing; a long list of production companies would not tell you much about whether this is the right film for your evening.
My interest is in the relationship rather than the military credentials. A child struggling at school does not experience confidence as a neat before-and-after photograph. He still has to walk back into the classroom. I would like the film to make that everyday difficulty feel real. That is an expectation based on the premise, not a verdict on a film I have seen.
For another young hero trying to work out what he can do, Percy Jackson season 3 offers a fantasy route into questions of confidence and responsibility. The two stories have different audiences and content guidance, so I would check each title separately.
Choosing it for a family evening
Apple’s current UK page classifies the film as a drama rated 12. That is a useful correction to the assumption that a child protagonist automatically means a film for every age. Marc’s experience of bullying is part of the story’s foundation. Check the classification and content guidance in your own country.
There is also a potentially interesting reversal in the uncle-nephew relationship. Jake arrives as the adult with training and experience, but he is recovering from an injury and struggling himself. Marc is not the only person who needs something from the summer. I would like the film to leave room for that dependence to run in both directions.
I would also avoid presenting the film as a lesson someone in the family needs to learn. “This might be a good story to watch together” is a gentler invitation than “this will teach you resilience.” It leaves room for a child to enjoy the film, dislike a character or say that a scene felt uncomfortable without feeling judged.
The sporting side may also put The Greatest on your list. That Muhammad Ali series concerns a real athlete’s life, while Marc’s story uses training to explore a child’s confidence. They give you very different reasons to be interested in what happens away from the contest.
Willink’s involvement goes beyond the book cover
Willink appears in the cast and is among the producers named by Apple. The film comes from Apple and Skydance, with Pratt also producing. Those credits show the author’s involvement in the screen project; they do not mean the adaptation must reproduce the novel scene for scene.
The title can sound as if it promises an instant transformation. The more persuasive version of that story would be made from smaller changes: the willingness to try again, to accept help, to do something difficult without an audience. That is what I would be looking for in Marc’s arc. A training montage can show effort, but the relationships have to give that effort a reason.
For another film about adults trying to manage family life alongside an extraordinary past, our Back in Action guide offers a lighter, more comic contrast. You can also find Anna’s Happy Gilmore 2 review in the film archive.
Watching while travelling
Check Apple TV availability in your destination and the film’s local account listing. If you already need a VPN for general browsing, our Surfshark comparison and Proton plan guide explain the wider products. None includes the film subscription or guarantees another country’s catalogue. Keep that purchase separate from deciding whether Marc’s story is the film you want to watch.
Four questions still coming up
Is the release November 20 or November 25?
Use November 25, 2026. The October 27 Apple announcement states the later date; older November 20 notices should not drive your plans.
Does Chris Pratt play the child’s father?
He plays Uncle Jake. Jude Hill plays Marc, and Linda Cardellini plays Marc’s mother, Sarah.
Is Way of the Warrior Kid an Apple TV series?
No. It is an Apple Original feature film, adapted from Jocko Willink’s novel.
Can I watch it without an Apple-made television?
Apple’s release announcement lists support for a range of devices beyond its own hardware. Check your particular model and local service availability before purchasing a subscription; the app being present is only the first check.
For a privacy subscription you expect to use beyond movie night, compare the current offer with the devices and commitment you actually need. For the movie reminder, keep it plain: November 25, Apple TV, check the local listing.
