Their partnership draws them into a hunt whose consequences reach beyond the person they are looking for. Silka Luisa is the creator and showrunner, with Ridley Scott among the executive producers.
The uneasy partnership is what catches my attention. One person is trying to get out of a life of running; the other is running out of time. Even before adding a futuristic city, that is a strong reason for two characters to make different choices under the same pressure. How it develops is something to discover in the episodes, not extract from a trailer frame by frame.
I would resist trying to solve the series before it starts. A familiar fictional world makes every prop and surname look like a clue. Some will matter; some may simply make the setting feel inhabited. Give the new characters a chance to become more than a list of connections to the films.
Should you revisit the films first?
If you already enjoy the films and have time, revisiting them sounds like a pleasant way to build anticipation. If you are new to the world, I would watch them in release order rather than assembling a chronology from online explainers. You get to meet the ideas in the order they were introduced, with fewer spoilers delivered as supposed background.
I would not describe a rewatch as compulsory homework. The announcement establishes the timeline, but that alone does not tell us how much knowledge the series expects from a new viewer. You can choose to begin with the first episode and see how comfortably it introduces its world. A viewing guide should help you start, not leave you with another assignment.
There is a money question here, too. If the older movies are offered to you for rental or purchase, read those terms separately. Do not buy a bundle just because the new series has made you curious. Eight episodes offer a different shape from a single feature film. The opportunity is to let Cora and Olwen’s dependence on each other change gradually, rather than make their first encounter carry every piece of exposition. The risk, as with any expansion of a familiar world, is that explanation can crowd out ambiguity. I would rather understand the people better than receive a definitive answer to every mystery.
Olwen’s short remaining time gives that structure a useful pressure. Cora can imagine another identity and another escape; Olwen’s options are narrowing. Their needs overlap without becoming identical. That difference is the strongest part of the announced premise for me, and it gives the futuristic setting a personal scale.
Travelling with Prime Video
Amazon’s travel guidance says the selection can change outside your home country and describes downloading on compatible devices before travelling. Your destination and account still matter. The announced size of a global rollout is not a personal guarantee for every combination of residence, travel location and device.
